HOW TO FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST AN OFFICER

The Blueberry Police Department is committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability. If you believe an officer has acted inappropriately, violated department policy, or engaged in misconduct, you have the right to file a complaint. All complaints are taken seriously and will be thoroughly investigated.

REASONS TO FILE A COMPLAINT

You may file a complaint if an officer:
  • Was rude, disrespectful, or unprofessional
  • Used excessive or unnecessary force
  • Conducted an improper search or seizure
  • Made a false arrest or unlawful detention
  • Discriminated based on race, gender, religion, or other protected status
  • Failed to take appropriate action when required
  • Violated your constitutional rights
  • Engaged in any other form of misconduct
INFORMATION TO INCLUDE

When filing your complaint, please provide as much detail as possible:
  • Your name and contact information
  • The name or badge number of the officer(s) involved (if known)
  • The date, time, and location of the incident
  • A detailed description of what occurred
  • Names and contact information of any witnesses
  • Any evidence you may have (photos, videos, documents)

Follow the provided format and submit your complaint. Your submission will be reviewed by the Internal Affairs Division.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Once your complaint is received:
  • It will be reviewed and assigned to an investigator
  • You may be contacted for additional information or clarification
  • The officer(s) involved will be notified and interviewed
  • Witnesses may be contacted and evidence reviewed
  • A determination will be made based on the findings
  • You will be notified of the outcome when the investigation is complete
CONFIDENTIALITY

Your complaint will be handled with discretion. Only the following parties will have access to view your complaint:
  • You (the complainant)
  • Internal Affairs Division
  • Command Staff
Your complaint will not be visible to the general public or other department members.

IMPORTANT NOTES
  • All complaints are investigated regardless of how they are submitted.
  • You will not face retaliation for filing a complaint in good faith.
  • Filing a false complaint is a criminal offense.
  • Anonymous complaints are accepted but may be more difficult to investigate.
