HOW TO REQUEST A WELFARE CHECK

A welfare check (also known as a wellness check) is when a police officer visits a location to check on the safety and well-being of an individual. The Blueberry Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of all community members.

WHEN TO REQUEST A WELFARE CHECK

You may request a welfare check if you are concerned about someone who:
  • Has not been heard from in an unusual amount of time
  • Is not answering phone calls, texts, or knocks at the door
  • Has expressed thoughts of self-harm or suicide
  • May be in a medical emergency and is unable to call for help
  • Is elderly, disabled, or vulnerable and may need assistance
  • Has missed important appointments or obligations without explanation
  • You believe may be in danger or distress
INFORMATION TO PROVIDE

When requesting a welfare check, please have the following information ready:
  • Your name and contact information
  • The full name of the person you are concerned about
  • The address where the person is located
  • Your relationship to the person
  • The reason for your concern
  • When you last had contact with the person

  • Emergency situations: If you believe someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
  • Non-emergency requests: Contact the Blueberry Police Department dispatch (Non-Emergency Number) or visit your local station.
WHAT TO EXPECT

Once a welfare check is requested, an officer will be dispatched to the location to assess the situation. The officer will attempt to make contact with the individual and verify their well-being. You may be contacted afterwards with an update, depending on the circumstances and privacy considerations.

IMPORTANT NOTES
  • Welfare checks are conducted as a community service and are not meant to be used for disputes or non-emergency matters.
  • Officers may not be able to disclose detailed information due to privacy laws.
  • If the individual is found to be safe, they will be informed that someone requested a check on their behalf.
Thank you for looking out for your fellow community members.
